The Freeform Tradition Festival showcases musicians who present, interpret, and experiment with tradition. This year, the festival brings Pekko Käppi and his band, K:H:H:L, as well as Amorius, to Lark.

Pekko Käppi and his band K:H:H:L (which stands for “the bones of dead horses out of control” meld traditional Finnish folk music with the intensity of psychedelic blues and rock.

They describe their music as "Scandinavian voodoo. Their style is characterized by the jouhikko, a traditional Karelian lute that Pekko Käppi plays himself. Käppi is also a researcher and a trained ethnomusicologist who specializes in the Finnish runo singing tradition. He teaches part-time at the Sibelius Academy.

Amorius is a Cypriot producer born in Ukraine. He currently lives in Paphos. He blends Ukrainian folk traditions with contemporary electronic music, especially drum and bass. He incorporates traditional instruments, such as the bandura, cymbals, and flute, drawing on his Ukrainian musical heritage. All of this can be heard on his latest venture with Brazil’s DNBB Records: a stunning five-track EP called “Ethno Code”
