Spiral by YEAR0001 with Provoker, RIP Swirl, Naemi
Doors 20:00
Curated by the renowned Swedish record label YEAR0001, the event series Spiral is coming to Berlin this Spring. Headliner is the Californian band Provoker, with support from RIP Swirl and Naemi at LARK. Spiral showcases innovative and emerging artists through experimental live events of varying scales, exploring different musical palettes and textures across genres and locations. Spiral launches in Spring 2024 with four dates across the UK, Germany, and Sweden. Straddling dystopic post-punk and pop melodies, Provoker’s unique formula has won them a devoted audience and a sold-out North American tour. Their last album “Demon Compass” dropped on Friday the 13th, a statement of the band’s unique ambition – the record features a highly developed mythology complete with a choose-your-own-adventure game alongside their most AAA pop cuts yet. They also cut four cinema-grade visuals, threw a release party in the Hollywood Hills and recruited LA enigma Eyedress for a feature on album highlight “Freezing Alive”. RIP Swirl (Public Posession, YEAR0001) translates his talents for collage into soundscapes that stitch together experimental dance, trip hop and shoegaze textures. On his debut album ‘Blurry’ Luka takes himself out of the club and grounds into his talents as a guitar player and multi-instrumentalist. Amplified by his love of analogue recording, the record blurs into a fluid soundtrack that oozes with a deep sense of nostalgia, simultansouly defying classification. Naemi is a Berlin-based artist, known primarily for their work as exael (3XL, West Mineral Ltd, Soda Gong, Anómia, Motion Ward). Whereas exael explores more ambiguous and impersonal territories, their work under Naemi incorporates more familiar forms of songwriting and traditional instrumentation. Melding a kaleidoscopic amalgamation of influences and sonic aesthetics, the sounds created therein tie together threads of dream pop, idm, musique concrete, ambient, trio-hop, and perhaps a smidge of troubadour-adjacent shenanigans.
