Xeno & Oaklander present their latest LP Via Negativa (in the doorway light) at Lark Berlin with a support of Dutch minimal synth / electro pioneer Das Ding.  in bio.

Brooklyn-based minimal synth duo Xeno & Oaklander was formed in 2004 by Sean McBride and Liz Wendelbo. Drawing from 1970s and 1980s cold wave and minimal electronic music, they create hypnotic, analog-driven soundscapes using vintage synths and drum machines. With albums like Sentinelle (2009), Par Avion (2014), Hypnos (2019), and Vi/deo(2021), released on labels like Ghostly International, Dais Records, and Wierd Records, they have played a key role in the revival of minimal synth and cold wave, influencing a new wave of electronic artists.

Xeno & Oaklander’s eighth and latest album, Via Negativa (In the Doorway Light), draws inspiration from the concept of “the other side, the negative image of a positive.” Recorded in the fall of 2023 at their modernist Connecticut home fashioned into a two-story synthesizer lab — the album balances visionary spirit with meticulous execution. Embryonic piano sketches evolved into intricate modular synth compositions, enriched by harmonic layers, tuned percussion, and rhythmic overtones. Despite its technological complexity, the album delivers emotive, widescreen anthems for the cybernetic age.

Das Ding is a moniker of Danny Bosten, a Dutch musician and graphic designer based in Rotterdam. In the early 1980s, while studying graphic design, Bosten founded the cassette label Tear Apart Tapes, releasing his own music and that of his friends. Operating from his bedroom studio, he crafted powerful dark electro tracks characterized by their minimalist and danceable qualities.

After years of underground obscurity, Das Ding was rediscovered in the late 2000s by the influential label Minimal Wave, which reissued his early recordings and brought his music to a new generation of listeners. Today, Das Ding is celebrated as a pioneer in the minimal synth genre, influencing contemporary electronic music with new releases and live performances.
